The Perennial Kinkster Problem: Packing Heavy Toys for Air Travel!

Every year, we hear it from seasoned attendees: Kink toys weigh a lot. If you're struggling to balance floggers, cuffs, theme night outfits, and practical travel limits — you're not alone. Here are some attendee-tested, hindsight-approved packing tips to help lighten the load (or at least avoid surprise fees and stress):

1. Get a Portable Luggage Scale

Bring a handheld luggage scale like this or this. Use it before you leave and again when packing to head home.

Tip: If it’s digital, toss in a spare battery just in case.

2. Maximize Your Carry-On Allowance

Most airlines allow:

1. One carry-on (like a small roller bag)

2. One personal item (backpack, tote, etc.)

Note: Medical devices (e.g., CPAPs) usually don’t count against your limit, but purses and hip packs often do. Be prepared to combine smaller bags if gate agents get strict.

3. Know Your Airline’s Checked Bag Rules

Check your airline’s website or app for exact rules:

1. Most airlines allow two checked bags; more can become very expensive

2. Standard weight limit is 50 lbs (overweight bags can cost a small fortune, e.g.  an additional $100–$200)

3. First class travelers often get three bags and higher weight limits, e.g. up to 70 lbs each. In some cases, an upgrade to first class might cost about the same as overweight and extra bag fees combined.

4. Carry On the Heavy Stuff (When You Can)

Put your heaviest items in your carry-on when possible. Just remember airport security restrictions — some kink gear might raise security concerns or may be prohibited in carry-on bags. Balance weight and discretion.

5. Bring an Extra (Empty) Bag

If your checked luggage ends up overweight, a small, empty duffel bag can be a lifesaver for shifting items at the counter. Playing the open suitcase shuffle of shame at the airport counter is never fun, especially with a suitcase full of kink toys. Stepping out of line to buy an overpriced airport bag in a rush is far from fun or ideal.

6. Team Up with Travel Partners

Traveling with friends or a partner? Distribute gear across bags to avoid solo overweight charges. Now that's teamwork!

7. Pack Fewer Clothes Than You Think You Need

Many attendees report overpacking clothes they never wore. It’s a warm-weather, clothing-optional resort — you’ll likely need less than you expect.

Plan ahead, pack smart, and you'll have more space (and peace of mind) to enjoy the week ahead.
